WORKING TOGETHER  BRIDGING THE GAP  TO BLACK ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

BLACK COMMUNITY, HERE’S WHY WE SHOULD ALL BUY BLACK EVERY TIME WE CAN AND SUPPORT BLACK BUSINESSES

REASON #1

As a Black Community in America being treated the way we are unfairly treated and consistently overlooked, we need economic empowerment to use as leverage so we can gain access to the things we need and be treated fairly. Black people supporting black businesses, as we champion here at Black Convergence, will help us concentrate our monies to our community, and be able to make it work for us – collectively. Supporting Black businesses and buying black every time we can, will help us achieve this goal. Black Businesses are very few and far between. We do not own a lot of businesses! And if we are to get anywhere close to self sufficiency and full autonomy as a people, owning successful, thriving businesses is a key component of us getting there.

REASON #2

Since we need our pooled resources to get us as a community to full economic empowerment, we need to own the businesses in our communities as well as some businesses outside of our community. We do not currently own many businesses and most of the essentials that we use on a daily basis – from food to healthcare, to utilities and entertainment we have to buy from other communities who although they’re situated in our communities, do not in any way support our Black community. Our concentrated resources will – over time – help us own more of the essential businesses we need and use every day, and eventually help us to own them all.

REASON #3

We are 228 years behind our White counterparts as far as the wealth gap goes, according to a recent survey by the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances, which means we have to start doing something about it – now. We must start now! We must strive to leave our upcoming generation in a better situation than we are right now, so they can continue to build on what we leave them – instead of starting from scratch.

REASON #4

We just cannot continue on like this! We are being murdered in the streets and in recent years – even in our homes. We have voted, marched, protested literally begged to be treated fairly in a society whose constitution declared “all men are equal” “with liberty and justice for all” and nothing changes. As Einstein once said, “insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”. We have to do things differently now! The only way we are going to break down the barriers and bureaucracies that are deliberately aligned to keep us oppressed, suppressed, repressed and depressed is to focus all our efforts on our community.

REASON #5

We’ve been making other communities rich for centuries – whether we liked it or not, and we have not been compensated in any way, shape, or form. As a community we are not only buying necessities from them; we go overboard filling their pockets and communities with our hardworking monies, purchasing “feel good” items they cater to us as they leverage our need for belonging, for inclusion. It is evident “they don’t really care about us” as Michael Jackson puts it. Yes, the establishment does not care about any of us – Blacks, Whites, Pinks, Browns, Yellows – and it’s time for us to care about us. It’s time for us to care enough about us, so we can change the way we behave with our resources – even if it means doing without something that we really like but we as a community do not currently supply, and it’s not a necessity.
